China-ASEAN Building Material Industry Conference was Held

      On March 26, 2021, the China-ASEAN Building Materials Industry Conference was held in the form of video. Xu Ningning, executive president of the China-ASEAN Business Council, said that at present, many products of the two sides, including building materials, have their own advantages and mutual needs. To increase trade and investment cooperation, it is particularly necessary to strengthen cooperation in software connectivity, including promoting trade facilitation and connectivity on rules and standard , improving the level of logistics cooperation, etc.

In his speech, Xu Ningning said that China and ASEAN countries are regions with the characteristics of super large markets and emerging markets in the world, and they have economic and trade relations with each other's industries that are highly complementary and each other's largest trading partners. In order to meet the actual needs of developers, the hardware and software cooperation between the two parties should be organically combined and promoted at the same time.

Currently, ASEAN is implementing the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity 2025. China-ASEAN has issued the ASEAN-China Joint Statement on Synergising the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity (MPAC) 2025 and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). In terms of sub-regional cooperation, China and ASEAN countries in the Mekong River Basin issued the Co-Chairman's Statement on the Linkage of Lancang-Mekong Cooperation and New International Land-Sea Trade Channel.

Xu Ningning emphasized that cooperation on connectivity has not only brought many new development opportunities, but also put forward new and higher requirements on the level of international cooperation of all parties. The two parties should not only implement the cooperation on connectivity hardware facilities projects, but also pay attention to strengthening interconnection software cooperation, which is related to the role of hardware facilities construction, the development of the mutual economic cooperation between the two parties, and the development of regional cooperation potential, especially the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. After the signing of (RCEP), the cooperation on software connectivity will become more urgent.

At the meeting, Lv Kejian, former director general of the Department of Asia Affairs of MOFMOC, said that ASEAN countries are implementing economic stimulus measures, including strengthening domestic infrastructure construction. China and ASEAN countries, which are connected by mountains and rivers, are linking China's construction of a new development pattern with the "ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework." Infrastructure construction in ASEAN countries has driven the development demand for the building materials industry. China is the world's largest producer and consumer of building materials. Chinese building materials products have a market in ASEAN, and building materials and related building materials from ASEAN countries also have a good market in China. The convening of the China-ASEAN Building Materials Industry Cooperation Conference is conducive to the enhancement of exchanges between the two parties and the discussion of complementary advantages and joint development. It is recommended that the two parties hold more video conferences, including industry matchmaking meetings, product exhibitions, investment promotion meetings, etc., to stabilize the industry chain and supply chain in the fight against the epidemic, and to serve developers.

Glenn Peñalanda, Commercial Counselor of the Philippine Embassy, and Park Phannara, Commercial Counsellor of Royal Embassy of Cambodia, respectively stated that they are optimistic about the economic and trade cooperation between the Philippines, Cambodia and China in the RCEP region, and welcome Chinese building materials companies to develop.

Gou Hairon , Vice Chairman of China Aggregates Association President of Gansu Huajian New Materials Co., Ltd.a well-known building material company, said that the current rapid development of China-ASEAN trade provides favorable conditions for the cooperation and development of the building materials industry of the two sides. He suggested relevant government departments of both sides provide good policy guarantees for enterprises, and business associations in the field of building materials of both sides build bridges, provide information and broaden cooperation channels for enterprises to cooperate.

Liu Xin, Executive Secretary General of the China-ASEAN Business Council, presided over the meeting and said that the China-ASEAN Business Council has actively promoted cooperation in the building materials industry between the two sides in recent years. In 2014, led by the CABC, the China Building Materials Federation and relevant ASEAN building materials associations jointly established the China-ASEAN Building Materials Industry Cooperation Committee; in 2018, led by the CABC, the China Decoration Industry Association, Shenzhen Guangtian Group and other Chinese representatives cooperated with ASEAN Leaders of relevant national construction associations jointly established the China-ASEAN Architectural Decoration Industry Cooperation Committee.

The meeting was hosted by the China-ASEAN Business Council. Representatives of the participating countries believe that the meeting will be of positive significance for enhancing innovative and pragmatic cooperation in the building materials industry when RCEP is about to take effect.
